When nitrogen and carbon are in the right balance microbes will begin to break down the material into humus. This process is driven by 3 types of biology.
- Cool temperature microbes (psychrophiles)
- Mid-temperature microbes (mesophiles)
- High-temperature microbes (thermophiles)
This process generates heat as humus is created by the organisms.
In these video we can see the heat generated by these composting bacteria as the biology breaks down this 1/8 minus bark into humus.
